Qualifications:
- Degree/Education : Histotechnology Certificate (ASCP)/The Pathology Technician must graduate from a medical laboratory technician training program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or educational program acceptable to the American Medical Technologist (AMT).
- Certifications: Current certification as a Pathology Technician or Histopathology. Certification/registration as determined by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or AMT.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience: Shall have 24 months of experience within the last 36 months.
- Licensure/Registration: Current certification as a Pathology Technician or Histopathology.
- Must have normal color vision
Job duties may include but are not limited to:
- The Pathology Technician will provide anatomic and clinical pathology specimen services as scheduled by the Chief of the Department, to include (but not limited to): embed tissues, prepare paraffin blocks for cutting on rotary microtome, attaches cut tissue onto specifically prepared slides, clear paraffin from tissue, perform routine and special stains, obtain tissue slides by surgical, cytological and autopsy number, submits finished tissue slides to the Pathologist, maintain histopathology records and instruments, maintain complete records of all surgical, cytological and autopsy specimens, to include filing and storing of paraffin blocks and stained tissue slides by accession number, prepares and ships blocks, slides, tissue specimens in fixative, maintain accreditation standards, prepare diagnostic reports to various military and civilian medical facilities.
- The Pathology Technician shall also prepare surgical, cytological and autopsy specimens. Receive and prepare specimens for fixation, dehydration and impregnation processes by either manually or automatically sending specimens through a series of formalins, alcohols, clearing agents and paraffins. Will have knowledge of organization, filing and proper storage of paraffin embedded tissue, glass slides, photographs and reports.
Schedule
- This is a full-time position.
- 5am – 5pm, Monday – Friday.
- 8hr shift
- no more than 40 hours per week.
